Whether your nails are long or short, begin with clear polish. Clear polish does not stand out as much as colour, but it feels great and makes your nails shine. Clear polish also allows you to have polish on, but makes your fingers and toes stand out less.

Another option for the first time out is a French manicure. This is a style that looks like regular nails, but polish is used to create a brighter natural look. White polish is used over the tip of each nail and clear over the rest of the nail.

A French manicure is a great look for a first time out, but it is time consuming to create. The clear polish goes on the nails first and then the tips must be kept level while the white polish is applied. If the nail is tipped backwards the white will run over the clear.

French manicures are best done by professionals. If you have not had a manicure, you should get one. Manicurists put lotion on your hands and/or feet and give you a hand and/or foot massage. They clean your nails and shape them. Finally, they apply the polish of your choice.
