The following is a reply to the author of the article Let's hope 'Troy' doesn't put men in skirts.
The article rebukes Brad Pitt's statement that the movie Troy will have men wearing skirts by next summer. The article describes men as being too macho and not attractive enough or interested enough to wear skirts.
The article's author is Jim Tynen and the letter is adressed to him.
Jim,
Your article, Let's hope 'Troy' doesn't put men in skirts, on Brad Pitt's statement that men will be wearing skirts by next summer is sad. You are way off base on your discussion of men. Men are changing rapidly and the macho sweaty man that you speak about will soon be close to extinction.
It is time for men to expand their wardrobes just as women have done. Men wore robes (dresses) and skirts for thousands of years. Men have only worn pants for four hundred years and originally only for riding horses.
It is time for stereotypical descriptions of men to be abolished. It is time for men like yourself to stand up for men's fashion freedom and support the right of all men to dress in the style that they see fit. Articles like yours are why men are so afraid to consider fashion as something they can have.
Men's fashion today is so limited and yet women have taken every piece of clothing in a man's closet and added to their wardrobes. Why can't men take back the right to wear the clothing that we men have worn for thousands of years? Why can't men like yourself see that today's style isn't the only men's style that ever existed?
Regards,
Troy
Thanks for your perspective. J.T.
