The Label Metrosexual 02-28-2005 9:38 PM
The below is a response to Killing the Metrosexual
A number of complaints have been levied against the term metrosexual. While labels are not a great idea, this term is the only revelation that men are changing.
The term metrosexual is used to describe men who are taking care of themselves in ways that men have not previously done, or at least care men have not practiced during the industrial age. Most of the care practices were exercised by men before the industrial age, but a stereo-type became forced on men throughout the 1900s.
Men are finally breaking through the stereo-types. Is it so bad to describe them as metrosexuals? Perhaps the label should be avoided, but a society that has labeled men as cross-dressers and transvestites for wearing skirts and dresses needs a new and nicer label. It is much better to have a positive label rather than a negative label.
