In most people most of their fears are implanted in them by our culture/society with neither they nor our society itself being aware of the fear being generated by the misconceptions piled upon all of us.
Think of all the bad jokes you've heard over the years, that while funny when you don't stop to think of them become really ugly when you analyze them. All the ethnic, sexual, cultural and religious jokes you've heard over the years are probably pretty cruel. Yet people have accepted them without really thinking about what they were saying or passing on.
The same is true about what a man wears. It has to fit an image of "manliness" and if it doesn't the whole space time continuium is at risk.
Or so they make it seem.
But many of us have already found out that it really doesn't matter anymore and there is nothing anyone can do "legally" to a man for wearing a skirt.
Have courage!
Do what YOU need to do!
That's my only advice!
