Why do men wear pants (trousers)? 3-29-2004 11:52 AM

Why do men wear pants (trousers)? The real question is "Why do men ALWAYS wear them?"
The answers (because there are many)?
Mostly simply because their fathers and virtually all other men do - especially those who are likely to be your boss.
Women won their right to first shorten their skirts and then to wear pants (trousers) because, in an age of sexual inequality, women were of no consequence - so it didn't matter what they wore!
If we men break the unwritten rules it is likely to affect our all-important earning capacity. THAT'S why men conform. And now the whole thing has become so entrenched that deviation from convention has become a matter for derision and scorn as "unmanly," - something that it is drummed into us from a very early age that we must never be.
It's the classic catch 22 situation - even at a stage of life (such as I have reached) where I don't have a boss - because I have retired. Now I just have "getting along with my contemporaries to worry about!
