Chiffon skirts could be considered 'pretty'. I use the word in its general sense of being 'attractive' but not necessarily outstandingly beautiful. 'Beautiful without dignity' (Chambers dictionary).
How acceptable is it for men to be 'pretty'? (without getting into the morass of some public perception which equates male prettiness with being gay).
A desire for oneself to be pretty implies some degree of self-expression. I like to wear soft, flowing fabrics; I often wear perfume and occasionally wear a touch of make-up. I have pierced ears and always wear earings. My hair is shoulder-length, and I like to keep it clean, soft and shiny. Occasionaly I will have it coloured with reddish streaks. That's me, that's what I like to do.
I certainly would never win any beauty contests , but if someone described me as 'pretty', I would (unless it was said in a derogatory way) be pleased.
What do you feel about prettiness for men? Is it an attribute just for the women?
