Anti-social or Anti-cultural - Reply 11-09-2003 11:35 AM

Yes, wearing kilts or skirts is largely a matter of attitude. And I wear both skirts and kilts. I came to MIS-MIK via having been a TV/CD all my life and spending most of that time trying to look "fem" enough to pass. It was all anyone knew when I was younger.

At nearly 60 I'm talking over the last 40-50 years, since I was old enough to have names for what I was doing or wanting to do. There was no MIS-MIK or internet, so none of us knew we could wear skirted clothes that wasn't fem. We felt we had to dress-up and impersonate in order to wear what was comfortable for us, at that time.

The anxiety I expressed in my first post [Anti-social or Anti-cultural] was aimed at the first timer thinking about going out. It was meant to address his anxiety and feeling before that first outings. So what you've said is right too, but what I posted is also true. There are cultural gender norms that most of our culture has impressed on people all their lives. A newbie needs to know where his unfounded fears come from and how to deal with it. I'm trying to help encourage the newbie or lurker to take the plunge.
