Why Metrosexual? |
Why have things changed, you ask?
Women have gained such a strong liberation that men now have to do something about their looks. Throughout history men have controled women, but not today. Women are more confident and can choose the man they want to be with. Many women will not bother with men who do not take care of their looks.
That leads to the point that men have always looked at women's bodies. Whereas women have not always considered men's bodies. Why? Because women did not have a choice in who they married until the 1800s. Two hundred years later, women are starting to look at men in the same way that men look at women.
All of this is not to say that women are becoming shallow while men are getting deeper. Instead, what is happening is that women are noticing physical aspects of men as well as emotional aspects. Men are adding emotional aspects to the physical aspects they already notice in women.
One thing that is important to mention is that not all men have always missed the emotional aspects of women, but the societal norm for men did not include respect for women's emotions.
Not only have women changed the way they see the world, but women have developed new fashions and styles. Men on the other hand have stagnated in fashion for the last hundred years. Men's suits are changed once every four years so insignificantly that it takes twenty years or more for a suit to look dated. Men have fewer choices in clothing today than any other time in history.
Why the change in men?
Men are bored. Bored with their lack of fashion choices. Bored with getting up every day and putting on the same pair of shoes, shirts that all look alike and dark coloured pants.
Men are also interested in looking attractive to women. Women are noticing more physical aspects of men than ever before and men are feeling the need to look good.
Men are also discovering that taking care of themselves is fun. Most men have thought that a day at the salon would be boring, until they went. The salon or spa is more than just a place to gossip. Massages feel good. Manicures and pedicures are a great experience. Men are finally understanding that the real draw to the spas and salons is the pampering and it is good.
With television shows like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, men are learning what gay men already knew. It feels good to look good. Gay men have an advantage, because appealling to men requires paying close attention to how you look. Heterosexual men are finally learning how important looking good really is.
