Well, I've definitely got a rep' at work... 12-19-2004 4:36 PM

A little background...

A while back a female co-worker noticed me in the Juniors Dept. at Mervyn's and we started joking about me shopping there. I'd grab a skirt and holler over to her about how it might look on me, she'd make faces and comments chiding me about my selection.

My wife and daughter were in the dressing rooms at the time.

So, back at work this got spread around.

For one gift-exchange (Christmas I suppose), one of the gals gave me my 'pink slip'. For those who do not know...a 'pink slip' usually indicates an official document like a car registration, or in this case, a notice of being fired! So she made a big deal about me getting my pink slip and losing my job. I opened up the box and...it was indeed a PINK slip...one of her old ones.

Moving forward, I finally got my Utilikilt and started wearing that to work (I have to change into scrubs for work though).

Although I have not worn a skirt out in public...YET...it's known to be good for a joke or two at work.

For this year's gift exchange, my 'Secret Santa' gave me a box with all types of labelling concerning men in skirts, kilts, etc.

When I opened it, it was actually a fannypack from SportKilt in Long Beach, CA., along with a pair of hose.

This comes on the heals of my wearing my kilt to a 'class' for the Executive Management Team, where I was to speak about my department. I got a few looks from the CEO, COO, etc. of the Hospital system, but it went over real well.

I introduced myself (most of them knew me a little) and explained that although I had planned on coming dressed more like they were (suits and ties), I decided to wear what I like to wear normally.

I told them that since they were here to learn about our facility and the people employed there, that they should be able to see first hand the diverse group of wonderful folks we have.

I got asked several questions about the kilt, and as I said, it went real well. My talk about my department wasn't the best speech I've ever made, but it worked.

If they ever ask me to do something like this again, I hope to have a skirt appropriate for the occasion!
