I have travelled to the US (Los Angeles and Washington DC) as well as to Fiji, NZ OZ and Singapore as well as going through both Heathrow and Garwick. My usual attire is skirt with rolled down socks and fairly sturdy shoes. I have never had a problem, quite the reverse, at Sydney and elsewhere the officials considered my dress more appropriate that their own!
