This past Saturday I had a fabulous skirting experience in midtown Manhattan. For anyone who does not know that is the center of New York City's business and tourist district. I was on Fifth Avenue in a skirt. There were hundreds of people walking around and I noticed quite a few take a gander at me or more at my skirt.

I was wearing a men's long sleeve casual shirt and a calf length (32 inches) straight blue skirt. I did not have hose on as it was pretty warm and I do shave my legs. I was wearing men's slip on walking shoes. I cannot remember what they are called, but these shoes are open in the back.

I was working on a Seminary project that required me to stand on a street corner and count people as they passed by. I counted 170 people during a three minute period. During that time almost every person that I counted noticed me in my skirt. The amazing thing is that while some people did a double take and bent their heads around to have that second look, no one seemed to see my skirt as a problem.

Even some young girls passed by and a few of them noticed my skirt and one girl stared at it, but even they did not giggle, as I thought they might. I then walked around the block as my project continued and counted people on the other side of the block. There were far fewer people there and one woman stared at me. When I looked her right in the eye, she realized that I was not strange or otherwise and looked me over once more and walked away.

I then passed two doormen at an expensive hotel and one of the doormen commented, "That is interesting." I told him about the fact that pants were invented for horseback riding and that I don't ride a horse. He said that makes sense and was very supportive. The other doorman was interested and seemed to shake his head in approval, but did not really comment.

Happy Skirting!!!
